Dal Pittha is a traditional

Ingredients:
For the dough:
2 cups rice flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
1/2 teaspoon carom seeds
(ajwain)
Water, as needed
For the filling:
1 cup chana dal
1 onion, finely chopped
1 green chili, finely
chopped
1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
1/2 teaspoon coriander
seeds
1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
Salt, to taste
Instructions:
To prepare the dough, in a
mixing bowl, combine the rice flour, salt, cumin seeds, carom seeds, and enough
water to form a soft and pliable dough.
To prepare the filling,
soak the chana dal in water for 3-4 hours or overnight.
Drain the water from the
chana dal and grind it to a coarse paste.
In a pan, heat some oil and
add cumin seeds, coriander seeds, and fennel seeds.
Once the seeds start to
crackle, add chopped onions and green chili. Saute until the onions turn golden
brown.
Add the ground chana dal to
the pan and mix well. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
Add salt to taste and mix
well.
Divide the dough into small
balls and flatten them into small discs using your hands.
Place a tablespoon of the
chana dal filling in the center of the disc and fold the edges to cover the
filling.
Repeat the process with the
remaining dough and filling.
Place the pittha in a
steamer basket and steam for 10-12 minutes or until cooked through.
Serve the pittha hot with
tomato chutney or ghee.
